Accounts are paid through Paypal and are generally setup the same day that you submit your order, most of the time within minutes. If your order arrives in the evening the account could be setup the same day or possibly the next day. Account setup will take no longer than 24 hours maximum. Top What types of payment does IconNetworks accept? We accept only Paypal at this time. Through special arrangements we can also accept other types of payment with proper verification, such as western union for instance. Top What kind of connection does IconNetworks have to the Internet? Our network is connected directly to a fiber optic IP network via redundant gigabit ethernet links. it utilizes the latest fiber optic technology with hundreds peering arrangements to insure that our IP traffic finds the best path to its destination. Top What operating system do you run? We run the CentOS operating system on all of our servers which is one of the most stable and widely used of the unix variants. Top Are you up to date with security and patches? Yes, all of our servers are kept up to date daily via updates from our private cvsup server. Incase of any downtime due to software or security upgrades, customers are notified at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible. Top Web Hosting Questions Does IconNetworks offer domain registration services? No, not at this time unfortunately, however there are hundreds of easy and cheap domain registration services, if you need help finding one let us know. Top What are your domain name servers? NS1.ICONNETWORKS.NET and NS0.ICONNETWORKS.NET. Top How long does it take a domain to transfer to your name servers? After you have requested your domain be transfered to our name servers your domain should be working from our servers within 24 hours. Top Do you support PHP extensions and MySQL databases? Yes. All of our web servers support PHP and MySQL. these are easily created via your cPanel, however If you would need help on how to create a MySQL database please contact us or just e-mail us for assistance. Top How do I upload files to my web site? You can connect to our server to upload files via FTP or secure FTP to upload files. Upon connecting to our server you will see a "public_html" directory in your account. All files must be uploaded inside that directory for them to show up on your web site. If your account does not include FTP access then you can use the Web File Manager via your cPanel to upload and manage files on your account. Top How can I manage IMAP and POP3 email accounts and aliases for my domain? Please open your control panel at: https://www.iconnetworks.net/cp.html. Input the "username" and "password" for your account, then after you login click on "E-Mail Accounts" you'll be able to create and modify IMAP, POP3 e-mail accounts, aliases, forwarders, mailing lists, and much more. Top Can I manage my domains dns settings? Yes, all accounts come with a DNS management system which allows you to modify every aspect of your domains DNS file and apply your changes in real-time, however be VERY CAREFUL if you decide to modify your DNS file, a simple error could make your whole site unreachable, if you need help modifying the file you can always contact support for assistance. Top Why don't you offer unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space? The answer is very simple. Numerous providers claim to offer unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space, however they are simply not being truthful. If you read the fine print it will generally say, "Unlimited bandwidth and disk space means you may not use more then 10% of our resources". This usually allows that provider to disable your site anytime they see fit. We will not cut you off due to extra usage! . Top General Account Questions How do I setup Wordpress? You can install WordPress on your site from inside your Control Panel with a single click, by accessing either "QuickInstall" or "Site Software" from inside your control panel and click on "WordPress" however not all accounts come with the "QuickInstall" or the "Site Software" features, if your account does not have them you can install WordPress manually following the standard WordPress installation procedure, we recommend at least the "IconLite" package for a WordPress site though. Top Can I install things such as servers, proxy relays or game servers via the Shell? Absolutely NOT! this is against our AUP and will cause your account to be immediately terminated, Please do NOT install anything on your site which opens a socket or runs a permanent process that listens for connections from the internet. Top How do I change my account password? After you login to your account via cPanel you can change your password from the Preferences area, If your account has comes with Shell access you can also change it via the Shell, to this type "passwd". Our system will then ask you for your old password and your new password twice. Top How do I enable my personal web site? Just upload your HTML files to the /public_html directory in your account. Any files uploaded in that directory will show up on your personal web site. Top How do I kill a background process? In your shell type "ps ux" which will display a list of running processes and their respective PID numbers. To kill a process find its pid number and type "kill -9 pid#". Top How much quota (disk space) have I used? In your shell type "quota". The number listed under usage is your quota usage in kilobytes. you can also check your disk space via the graphical interface on your cPanel to the left hand side of the panel under "Server Info" Top How many connections to IRC am I allowed to have from my Shell? None!! No IRC connection should be started either TO or FROM your account, doing so would be considered against our policies and can lead to your account's termination. Top Do you allow crontab processes on accounts with Shell access? Not at this time, if you require crontab for some reason, please contact support, we will configure it on a person to person basis. Top Miscellaneous Questions Is the time and date on your servers always accurate? All of our servers are synced to stratum 1 time servers which use the atomic clock to accurately keep track of time.
